Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Senator Shamim Afridi has alleged that the death of his son, former Senator Abbas Khan Afridi, was not an accident but a pre-planned murder. Speaking at a press conference at the National Press Club Islamabad, he termed the incident a “deep-rooted conspiracy” against his family.
Senator Afridi rejected the police and administration’s claim that a gas explosion caused the incident, asserting that there was no gas facility at the site. He claimed a highly flammable liquid chemical, commonly found in the area, could have triggered the explosion when exposed to fire or a cigarette in a closed room.
He said the explosion occurred just 15 minutes after Abbas Afridi entered the guest room. Abbas sustained critical injuries and succumbed the following day.
The senator further revealed that on the same night, his other son, Amjad Afridi, was arrested along with household staff. He criticized the police for presenting Amjad in court with his face covered “like a terrorist,” despite being a public figure known for his developmental work in Kohat.
Senator Afridi condemned the police for failing to register an FIR and urged the federal government to take immediate notice and ensure justice.
