ISLAMABAD: President of Senegal, Mr. Macky Sall planted a Pine Tree at the Memorial Garden of Shakarparian here on Wednesday.
Mayor of Islamabad and Acting Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) Sheikh Anser Aziz along with Member Environment and senior officers of the Authority were also present on this occasion.
Macky Sall is 130th foreign and second Senegal’s leader to plant the tree at the International Friendship Garden, Shakerparian, Islamabad.
Sheikh Anser Aziz briefed the foreign dignitary about the making of Capital Islamabad in this region and tradition of planting trees at this Memorial Garden of Shakarparian where the Federal Cabinet met to approve the Master Plan of the Federal Capital Islamabad. The tree plantation site named as International Friendship Garden is a unique place where the highest numbers of head of states and governments have planted trees as memento of their visit to the capital of Pakistan. Furthermore, Authority is also planning to develop this place by establishing a gallery carrying the brief introduction and photographs of the dignities who planted the trees. Sheikh Anser Aziz said that lights will be installed in the area where dignitaries and leaders from other countries have planted plants. The map of Islamabad will be put to display which will be named Islamabad viewpoint, he further informed.
Mayor of Islamabad and Acting Chairman CDA apprised that for the first time in the history of Federal Capital, local body system was introduced and powers have been delegated to local representatives. He apprised that local government system will not only help involve local population in decision making process and but will also facilitate a better solution of public issues. He further informed that in accordance with the vision of Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif many new mega development ventures are being launched to make Islamabad a hub of business activities.
The Senegal’s President took a view of Islamabad from the historical place of Shakarparian and praised the natural beauty and greenery of the city.
