Shireen Mazari announces quitting active politics

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) prominent leader Shireen Mazari on Tuesday announced to quit PTI and politics. The announcement comes in the wake of the recent incidents that took place on May 9 and 10, which she strongly condemned.

The PTI’s vocal leader addressed a news conference soon after her release from prison and announced quitting politics. Shireen Mazari expressed firm stance against all forms of violence and expressed her solidarity with the victims and their families. “I condemn the incidents of May 9 and 10 in the strongest possible terms,” she said.

Shireen Mazari stated that she has personally taken the initiative to launch an inquiry into the matter by approaching the Islamabad High Court. “I have undertaken an inquiry in the Islamabad High Court to ensure a fair and transparent investigation,” she announced.

During her presser, Shireen Mazari emphasized the importance of respecting state institutions and condemned any acts of aggression against them. She specifically mentioned the attacks on prominent institutions like the General Headquarters (GHQ) and the Parliament, stressing that such actions should be condemned.

“From today onwards, I am no longer a part of PTI or any political party,” she announced. She added that her daughter, lawyer and activist Imaan Mazari, was put through a trial. Shireen Mazari expressed her unwavering commitment to her family.

She told the media persons that her family especially her children and mother were her first priority after the death of her husband Dr Tabish. She said for the sake of her family and her health which has become badly down during the last 12 days in detention so she cannot continue her active politics anymore.

So, she declared that she has decided to quit active politics. Due to her poor health condition, she requested the media persons that she cannot talk further and left the venue. Earlier, PTI leader Shireen Mazari was arrested for the fifth time from outside the court of judicial magistrate in Kharian soon after she was set free by the court.

The PTI leader was arrested by the Gujrat police after her release from Adiala Jail on Monday. She was arrested in a case registered against her on May 11 in Kharian. She is accused of taking part in a protest demonstration held on May 10 in Kharian against Pakistan and inciting the public.

Dr Mazari was produced before the court of Judicial Magistrate Akhtar Ali on Tuesday. Dr Mazari’s lawyer told the court that she was not present in the protest and she never visited Kharian before. Listening to the arguments, the magistrate ordered immediate release of Dr Mazari.
