Sindh govt yet to release fund for Beach Games

KARACHI: The organisers of the National Beach Games have not yet received fund from the provincial government, a source told on Monday.
“If we do not receive fund tomorrow we will not be in a position to host the competitions,” the source, who is part of the organising committee, said.
Sindh Olympic Association (SOA), which will be organising the competitions here at the Sea View from September 18-20, requested Rs20 million from the Sindh government.
Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) has formally unveiled dates of the competitions which are being held for the first time in history.
SOA said in a press release on Monday that it was fully prepared to hold the spectacle according to the announced time-frame if the Sindh government issued it the required amount.
“We are fully prepared to host the competitions provided the fund is received from the Sindh government,” SOA said.
The SOA expressed the hope that the provincial government would release the fund soon.This correspondent also learnt that Sindh sports department had not yet given approval which was the main obstacle in the way. In the three-day affair players from across the country will showcase their talent in 12 disciplines.
Those players who are to be part of Pakistan contingent for the Asian Beach Games this month in Vietnam will not represent their provincial or departmental sides.
