PESHAWAR: Employees of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Social Welfare Department staged a protest at Assembly Chowk, demanding parity in benefits with health workers and opposing the alleged plan to abolish the department. A large number of male and female employees participated, causing a traffic blockade and inconvenience to citizens. Special Assistant on Social Welfare, Malik Liaquat, arrived at the protest site for negotiations, assuring the employees that he had discussed their demands with the Chief Minister. He expressed uncertainty about what prompted the protest, stating that no decision had been made to relocate employees to BHUs. He further announced the formation of a ten-member committee to address the remaining concerns. Following successful talks, the protesters ended their demonstration, and police reopened the road for traffic. DLP Report
