KP Cabinet granted two months’ special remission to eligible convicted prisoners

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi on Saturday strongly condemned a recent statement by the Punjab chief minister, saying that placing personal interests above national interests had become their practice and that such remarks run contrary to Pakistan’s national narrative.
Addressing the provincial cabinet here, the chief minister said the statement was not limited to one province and had provided “space and international traction to India’s anti-Pakistan narrative.”
“Pakistan belongs to all its provinces and citizens. A discriminatory attitude towards smaller provinces will deepen mistrust and resentment, which is neither in the interest of Pakistan nor of its institutions,” Mr Afridi said.
Briefing the media after the meeting, Minister for Information Shafi Jan said that the cabinet approved establishment of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Witness Protection Board and Units I and II under the KP Witness Protection Act, 2021.
He said approval granted to a fresh government-to-government contract with revised rates for printing polycarbonate smart cards, registration booklets and stickers under the Motor Vehicles Ordinance, 1965.
The cabinet granted two months’ special remission to eligible convicted prisoners. Referred the matter of water distribution between Galiyat and Murree, including rates and arrears, to the next Council of Common Interests meeting.
Mr Jan said that the cabinet accoded approval of submission of the Annual Report of the Provincial Ombudsman’s Office for 2025 to the KP Assembly.
On the economy, the chief minister criticised repeated federal increases in petroleum prices and rising debt. He said Pakistan’s debt had reached Rs97 trillion in five years, compared to Rs43 trillion accumulated over the previous 74 years.
The chief minister added that KP had collected over Rs150 billion in revenue last year against a target of Rs130 billion, and aims to collect more than Rs200 billion this year without new taxes.
