Special tribute paid to Swat senior Journalist and The Nation slain Staffer Siraj ud Din (Shaheed) on the occasion of his 14th death anniversary which was observed here on Monday at Swat Press Club.
Siraj ud din 53, who worked as a Correspondent for The Nation and Nawa i Waqt group at Swat was killed in a suicide bomb attack in Mingora on 29 Feb 2008 during the Talibanazation in the valley.
He was the first Journalist who got martyrdom during the conflict at Swat. Siraj ud Din, a working Senior journalist, born on 05 Feb 1955, at Master Muzzafar Hussain home in Mingora.
He passed his matriculation from Government Wadudia high school Saidu sharif, did inter from Jehanzeb college and later left for Peshawar for further studies where he did his Bachelor’s degree and completed masters in English in 1973.
He started his journalism career in 1983 with Daily Wahdat. He use to write for several National Dailies including Daily Pakistan, Daily The Muslim, Frontier Post, represented PTV in 1994. He was elected twice as Vice Chairman and Vice President of Swat Press Club and Swat Union of Journalist respectively.
He is one of the founders of Swat Press Club, associated with the field of journalism for more than two decades. He played a pioneer role in the field of objective journalism in the region and remained a role model in the profession.
In this connection a special ceremony was organized at Swat Press Club where the local Journalists’ relatives and elders of the region paid homage to Siraj Uddin (Shaheed) which also deserves due commendation and the entire journalist fraternity feel proud on its courageous colleague who rendered his life for peace in the region.
They lauded the dedicated service as a journalist he rendered for 23 years during his lifetime. Later, they prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
Haroon Siraj, son of martyr Journalist said that he was proud of his father’s services adding that his father used the media only for highlighting the problems and issues of public interest.
Haroon complained that PPP government in central and ANP at Provincial at that time announced compensation and government jobs but still the family of slain journalist deprived of any support pledged to them.
The PTI government also failed to compensate the affected family despite the several reminders. He questioned the government authorities and Journalist Unions to seek justice in this regard.
