KHYBER: The local administration kicked off the spring plantation campaign in Landi Kotal on Friday. Assistant Commissioner (AC), Landi Kotal Inamullah Khan Wazir accompanied by Tehsildar Temoor Afridi, Additional Station House Officers Zeenat Afridi and Saeed Afridi, officials of forest department and tribal elders inaugurated the drive in a simple function held there. On the occasion AC, Landi Kotal said that thousands of saplings would be planted in the campaign and he directed the forest officials to involve farmers, students, social workers and other volunteers of the tribal society to make the drive successful. He urged them to create awareness among the masses and disclose to them the importance of plantation to encourage people to plant more trees in the area. The tehsil administrator asked the locals to play their due role to plant trees and to preserve forests. Earlier, he planted the sapling of olive by formally opened the spring plantation campaign. The forest officials also distributed free saplings among the participants.
As per the administration official, free saplings would be provided to those who are keen to plant trees on their piece of land, he opined.
