London (Online): England fast bowler Stuart Broad has expressed his desire to be part of the national One-Day International squad for the 2019 Cricket World Cup.
Broad has not played ODI cricket since February 2016 and since the 2015 Cricket World Cup, he has only featured in two games in the format.
Despite being ignored for the ODI series in Bangladesh, Broad remains committed to fulfilling his dream of playing for England at home in the 2019 Cricket World Cup.
“I’m desperate, as I think every England cricketer would be, to play at the 2019 World Cup in England,” Broad told Sky Sports News HQ.
“It is a long way away but it will creep up.
“The tricky part of playing a lot of test cricket, I’ve played 48 on the bounce now, is you don’t actually get a lot of time to play white-ball cricket so it’s quite hard to keep up with the standard in a game that moves forward so quickly.”
Broad remains an integral part of the England Test team but he also has a decent record in the ODI format with 178 scalps from 121 matches.
Since the ODI against South Africa earlier in February this year, Broad has also not played any List A matches in the domestic circuit.
The 30-year-old admitted that he needs to play more white-ball cricket to put up his name for selection in the ODI format.
“I’m trying to find more time to play white-ball cricket.
“I’ve got a bit of a proven track record with the white ball, my stats are pretty good in the 50-over stuff, I just need to play a bit more of it.”
Earlier in August, in an attempt to reignite his limited-overs career, Broad has joined the Hobart Hurricanes franchise for the next season of the Big Bash League in Australia.
