Sweden interested to invest in Pakistan’s ICT sector: envoy

Sweden has shown interest for investment in Pakistan’s information communication technologies (ICT) sector. This transpired during a meeting between Ambassador of Sweden to Pakistan Henrik Persson and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman Maj Gen (retd) Amir Azeem Bajwa at PTA headquarters on Thursday.
The chairman PTA appreciated the ambassador’s proactive engagement with stakeholders to promote investment and bilateral business opportunities. He apprised the ambassador of expansion and innovation taking place in Pakistan’s telecom sector under the Prime Minister’s “Digital Pakistan Vision”.
During the meeting, investment opportunities for Swedish companies in Pakistan’s ICT sector were discussed.
Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation between Sweden and Pakistan in the ICT sector.
Meanwhile, the number of 3G and 4G service users in Pakistan has significantly increased and reached 108 million by end of December 2021, as per detail available at the official site of the PTA website.
Pakistan has around 189 million mobile phone users. The number of broadband subscribers reached 110 million in December while the broadband penetration was recorded at 49.94 percent.
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has blocked about 86,000 mobile devices that were found involved in fraudulent activities.
