PESHAWAR: The most venerable monk of Thailand, Arayawangso visited the Shapola Stupa, Khyber district on Wednesday. The visit to Shapola Stupa by such a high-ranked monk has been a historical day in this region, as no one in the past has visited the stupa before. The monk hoped that this visit will have a positive effect on global communities as they will have a better understanding of Buddhist sites in Pakistan, especially stupas and monasteries, which in return will boost religious tourism in this region. Special thanks to the Pakistan Army and District Administration Khyber who have worked very hard to bring peace and harmony to the region where the site is opened for international religious tourism. The officials of Archaeology Department briefed him about historical significance of the Stupa. Earlier, the monk along with his delegation visited others historical Buddhists sites in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and took keen interest in it. APP
