Torkham border reopens

Remaining suspended for nine days, the Pak-Afghan border was resumed for all kinds of movement here on Friday.
According to Pak authorities after assurance from Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Afghan government Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaqi that Afghan soil will not be utilized against Pakistan, the border was reopened for pedestrian as well as vehicular traffic.
It is to be mentioned here that days back the crossing was closed in protest when the conflict erupted between the Pak and Afghan forces due to construction of a new post by Afghanistan at the border and militants attack carried out from across the border in Chitral.
Hundreds of pedestrians stranded on both sides of the border for the last nine days, thronged to the crossing to move to their destination.
In the same way dozens of Kabul bound trucks loaded with export and transit goods approached the export terminal, Torkham for clearance and import loaded vehicles also crossed in the import terminal.
Last day the Custom and Federal Investigative Agency (FIA) asked their crews to ensure their presence on their concerned duties and the Custom also informed the trading communities through a message of the resuming of the border on Friday morning.
Citizens of the both neighboring countries expressed their amusement over the reopening of the border and said it was the lonely source of income for thousands of people living at the border therefore the Pak-Afghan officials should settle their problems through dialog at local level.
