Torkham border resumes for patients, transport crossing

Remaining suspended for twenty five days, the Pak-Afghan sharing border Torkham was reopened on Wednesday for patients and transport (cargo) while after two days, the border will reopen for general crossing, Pak and Afghan officials said.
It is to be stated here that the Torkham border was shut for all kinds of movements after an arm fight took place between Pak and Afghan forces over the construction of a check post by Afghanistan in a restricted area.
Earlier, a flag meeting of Pakistan and Afghanistan officials was held at zero point, Torkham who agreed to thoroughly discuss the prevailing situation on the crossing, an official informed.
Governor Nenegarhar Maulvi Azizullah,Commissioner Torkham Maulvi Abdu JabbarHikmat, Afghan council general Muhammad Zakriya represented Afghan government while from Pakistan side Wind Commander Zainul Abedin,Major Fawad,Major Dayan,Major Azdar and others participated in the meeting.
Both countries’ officials agreed to open the border for transport on 4:00 pm on Wednesday while for pedestrian crossing, the border will resume after two days (on Friday).
A Pakistani official said that arm clash damaged pedestrian scanners and other equipment therefore it will take time to refunction it therefore the passengers’ entry and exit is expected to resume on Friday.
Prior to it, Custom, Federal Intelligence Agency (FIA) and other concerned departments officials had been recalled on their duties to recommence clearance examination activities at the border, an FIA official said.
Scores of Afghani patients who are supposed to get treatment of their fatal disease in Pakistani hospitals entered into Pakistan after both countries approved to recommence the border. Similarly hundreds of vehicles loaded with merchandise, stranded at both sides of the border, crossed in and out the border, transporters said.
