Traders in Jamrud bazaar have threatened to launch a protest against unfair treatment and harassment towards local shopkeepers by the Food Safety and Halal Food Authority. President Anjuman-e-Tajeran, Jamrud Bazaar Kahsef Afridi said that early morning on Wednesday, the officials of Food Safety and Halal Food Authority intercepted ghee supply at Takhta Baig check post, transported from Ashraf road, Peshawar to local market and shifted the commodity to tehsil Jamrud compound for possible fining.
Unfairly harassing and fining the local businessmen was unacceptable, Afridi said.
He alleged that the authority seized the item on pretext of sub-standard quality but claimed that action was taken without proper testing and evidence.
The confiscated ghee is made in a factory( ghee mill) located in Bara, where from it transports to Ashraf road, Peshawar(main ghee market)for distribution he added and said if the edible item is of poor quality then the authority concerned should cancel the factory and seal it.
We understand the importance of food safety but not at the cost of our livelihood, he remarked.
The traders demanded immediate release of the confiscated commodity and threatened that if the Authority did not revise its course of check then they would shut down their shops in protest against it.
According to the official of the Food Safety and Halal Food Authority, the seized ghee was of poor quality and harmful to health.
