Bahawalpur (PR ): A massive tree plantation campaign in connection with Prime Minister’s Green Pakistan Programme began at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur.
The Estate Care department has started this tree plantation drive on direction of Prof. Dr. Qaiser Mushtaq, Vice Chancellor to plant 10,000 trees across the IUB campuses. Ch. Khalid Mehmood Jajja, Parliamentary Secretary, Irrigation Punjab along with Prof. Dr. Qaiser Mushtaq, Vice Chancellor inaugurated the campaign at Baghdad ul Jadeed Campus.
He said that Pakistan is among the countries hit hardest by climate change and the initiative by the Prime Minister to plant 105 million trees under Green Pakistan Programme will not only pave the way for the socio economy development of the country but also help cope with climate change disasters.
It is encouraging and great example of others to follow that the campaign has been implemented at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur through active participation of faculty and students under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor. Prof. Dr. Qaiser Mushtaq, Vice Chancellor on this occasion said that 1575 pomegranate have been planted on first day of the campaign and fruit trees are selected for this purpose which will be a good addition for the university in terms of financial benefits.
The Vice Chancellor added that 74% of the area in Baghdad ul Jadeed Campus which was barren and non-utilized is being leveled for cultivation and till now 76 acres of land has been reclaimed.
He appreciated the efforts of estate care division making university campuses, beautiful and environment friendly.
