Residents of Ghundi,Soor Kamar,Bakarabad,Warmando Mela,Toda Mela etc refused to administer anti-polio vaccine to their children until the administration pay them compensation of Jaba dam and to grant cost of their land in Besay, Shahkas,Jamrud allegedly grab by the government.
They announced their boycott on Tuesday after a grant jirga of elders was held of Saar Khel, the sub-tribes of Katia Khel demanded compensation of Jaba dam and their private property seized by the government in Shahkas in addition with lifting of section 4,closing of crush plants, functional in the area and provision of tube well and water pipe.
Speaking to the media Irfan Khan Katia Khel said that the compensation cheques of the land in Shahkas, have been issued but the administration deliberately utilizing delay tactics to pay them that annoyed the shareholders of property and they unanimously sent back the polio teams and declined to feed it to their children.
They threatened that the dwellers have unfurled black flags on their houses to file their protest and in near future they initiated sit- in in front of the offices of Deputy Commissioner offices, Khyber and Corp Commander, Peshawar.
When the District Health Officer(DHO)Dr Zafar was contacted on the matter he said that the residents are among demand base refusals who time to time tender condition for vaccinating their children against the crippling disease.
It is ironic that these parents condition vaccination on the risk of their children’s health with their irrelevant and pity demands which is also impossible for the health department to meet, he added.
He mainlined that efforts are being made to persuade the refusals to administer polio to their five years below children.
It is to be stated here that if the boycott is not given up approximately 239 children will be deprived of the vaccination against polio.
