PESHAWAR
The teaching fraternity of the University of Peshawar (UoP), under the banner of the Peshawar University Teachers Association (PUTA), continued its boycott of classes for the third consecutive day on Wednesday in protest against the vice chancellor’s failure to convene a meeting of the varsity’s selection board.
The faculty members have completely withdrawn from classes and office work on PUTA’s instructions, effectively paralysing academic operations at the university.
Students who arrived on campus were left facing considerable difficulties due to the suspension of lectures. PUTA leaders have said the protest was launched against the vice chancellor’s continued failure to convene a meeting of the selection board. They maintained that the boycott would continue until the meeting was called.
Meanwhile, the university’s Joint Action Committee, comprising representatives of Class IV employees, sanitation staff, and administrative officers, met with the PUTA leadership to express solidarity and discuss the possibility of joining the protest. However, PUTA had asked the committee to wait for the time being. Sources said that if the issue remains unresolved, a decision could be taken to shut down the entire university.
