The United States and Iran have reportedly agreed to extend their ceasefire under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), just days before its August 17 deadline. Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Raza Naqvi met Iranian leaders in Tehran to deliver a special message from Islamabad, emphasizing bilateral relations, regional security, and stability. Both Washington and Tehran have conveyed consent to extend the 60-day ceasefire, though the exact duration of the extension is still being negotiated. Neither side has publicly confirmed the agreement yet.
Signed on June 17, 2026, the MoU gave both parties 60 days to negotiate a final settlement, with provisions for extension by mutual consent. Diplomatic Mediation: Pakistan has played a central role, with Naqvi’s Tehran visit including meetings with President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. He carried messages from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir.
