Women’s commission sets up district committees in 26 KP districts

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Commission on the Status of Women has notified the formation of district committees in 26 districts, a handout said.
According to the statement, the move aimed at empowering women and ensuring their representation in the province.
Chairperson Dr Samira Shams has said the step was part of the provincial government’s vision to protect women’s rights and give them a role in national development.
She thanked the social welfare department and the commission’s team for their efforts.
The committees will monitor women’s issues, facilitate communication and ensure timely resolution of problems at the district level. The move comes over a decade after the Women’s Commission Act was passed in 2010.
