SSP Operations Sajjad Khan says 217 mosques, Eidgahs declared sensitive in provincial capital

The Capital City Police on Wednesday said it had busted 31 criminal gangs and arrested 119 accused involved in robberies, car and motorcycle snatching in a campaign in the past three months in provincial capital, an official said.
Speaking at a press conference Caption City Police Officer (CCPO) Tahir Khan said the police had launched a drive to control street crimes in city, cantonment, rural areas and Saddar circle and through the district.
The Tahir Khan said the police arrested 119 members of robbers, carjacking and bike snatching gangs and recovered stolen cash and other items from them. He said the arrested criminals included 11 Afghan nationals.
Sharing details, he said the police recovered a total of Rs4.260 cash, 12 cars, 20 motorcycles, 20 tolas of gold ornaments, 38 mobile phone sets and other items during the campaign.
CCPO said that personal of security forces and intelligence agencies were also assisted the police during the operations.
He said that the drive helped decreased the crimes ratio in the provincial capital.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations, Sajjad Khan said that the security arrangements for Eidul Azha, that a comprehensive security plan has been chalked out for providing security at markets and cattle markets. He said that the police had established over 15 helpline desks in the cattle markets across Peshawar to provide security and prevent swindlers from trapping the traders and customers.
He said that male and female cops had been deployed in various areas of the city in plain clothes to keep a check on anti-social elements.
He said 217 mosques and Eidgahs have been declared sensitive and cops would be deployed there.
Sajjad Khan said the police was fully capable and prepared to cope with any eventuality. He said police posts had been established at the entry and exit points to various markets to keep a close check on the people visiting the markets and provide security to customers and shopkeepers on the eve of Eidul Azha.
He also urged the traders and shopkeepers to keep a close eye on suspicious persons, objects and anti-social elements and cooperate with the police to maintain peace in the markets.
Sajjad Khan said the police was preparing a full-fledged security plan for Muharram in advance for which, he said, the cooperation of traders and civil society was imperative.
