Commissioner Malakand Division Abid Wazir has said that most of the relief and cleaning operations in flood-affected areas have been completed, while compensation to victims will soon be provided under the provincial government’s policy.
He was addressing a media briefing at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office Swat, where DC Swat Saleem Jan Marwat, ADC (General) Mohibullah Khan Yousafzai, ADC (Finance & Planning) Syed Noman Ali Shah, and ADC (Relief & Human Rights) Naimatullah Khan were also present.
Commissioner Wazir said that the recent floods caused 321 deaths, left 166 injured, and damaged more than 3,000 houses, 280 government buildings, 1,400 shops, 63,000 acres of farmland, and nearly 6,000 livestock. He noted that the highest losses of life and property were reported from Buner district.
He added that families of martyrs had already been provided cheques of Rs 2 million each by the provincial government, while surveys are under way to assess damages to houses, farmland, and livestock.
The commissioner said all major and minor roads had been restored for relief efforts, 90 percent electricity supply had been resumed, and water was being provided through tankers in affected areas.
He expressed gratitude to the Pakistan Army, district administration, welfare organizations, volunteers, and especially Tablighi Jamaat members for assisting in rescue and relief operations.
