Food Department Officials conducts raids in Peshawar, Mardan

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority conducted raids in Peshawar and Mardan where in checking milk vendors and chicken shops, spokesperson Food Authority said here Sunday. The teams of the Food department also setup blockade on main Kohat Road and inspection of vehicles of various food items, the spokesman said. He disclosed that about 450 liters of milk was destroyed as it was found to be substandard, heavy fines were also imposed on the spot, the spokesperson informed. Mardan Food Safety Team is also checking food related businesses in different localities wherein taken milk samples from the mobile food testing lab and more than 270 liters of milk was destroyed as it was found to be substandard, the spokesperson said.
He said, more than 900 kg of dead chickens were recovered and destroyed from a chicken shop in Sikandri Bazar Mardan and legal action has been initiated against the owner. Food safety teams should step up the crackdown against the adulteration mafia across the province, Director General Shafiullah Khan told media men.
He said they have targeted inspections of milk vendors and canteens of hospitals and educational institutions.
