Supreme Court (SC) during the hearing of the case related to acceptance of nomination papers has remarked we donot want to give such order which causes delay in the election.
Appeal of candidate from PP-224 regarding acceptance of his nomination papers came up for hearing before single bench of SC led by Justice Jamal Mandokhel here Wednesday.
Special secretary Election Commission (EC) appeared in the court.
The court remarked during the hearing of the case petitioner filed appeal late by 12 days. Permission for election could have been given had the appeal been filed in time. We donot want to give such decision which causes delay in the election.
Justice Jamal questioned from special secretary why the EC has kept schedule for small period. EC should have known that appeals have to be filed.
Special secretary EC told the court if nomination papers are accepted at this stage then the election can delay in the constituency. The process of printing of ballot papers has been completed. In several districts the process of sending ballot papers is underway.
Special secretary told the SC 260 million ballot papers have been printed for 850 constituencies. 850 tons paper was sought for the previous election and 2170 tons paper has been sought for this election. 2400 tons paper was needed being the candidates in large number. The size of ballot papers has been reduced to meet the need of paper.
The court later dismissed the appeal of candidate from PP-224 seeking acceptance of nomination papers after hearing the arguments.
