In response to public complaints about illegal parking practices around private hospitals in Hayatabad Phase 5, the Advisor for Anti-Corruption, Mosaddiq Abbasi, has directed the department to take immediate action.
The issue came to light after several complaints were lodged regarding the overcharging of parking fees and unauthorized parking operations near hospitals in the area, said a statement.
Acting swiftly, Mosaddiq Abbasi instructed the Anti-Corruption Department to investigate the matter and take appropriate action.
During a surprise visit, Siddiq Anjum, Director of Anti-Corruption, discovered that although the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) had allocated parking space in the area, the parking staff had exceeded their limits and were engaging in overcharging.
The parking staff were found to be charging more than the authorized rates per vehicle, causing frustration among the public.
Upon questioning, PDA staff admitted that no formal parking had been allotted at the location.
As a result, the Anti-Corruption Department imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the illegal parking operators.
The department also ordered the immediate termination of the contract with the current parking management staff involved in the malpractice.
