PESHAWAR
Thirteen (13) transporters were arrested and their route permits were suspended for fleecing the commuters here on Monday. The overcharged fare was returned to the commuters.
On the directives of the Commissioner Peshawar Division, Riaz Khan Mehsud, the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) launched a crackdown against the commuters’ transport for overcharging the people.
In this connection, a joint team comprising Secretary RTA Peshawar Payo Khan and Assistant to Commissioner Rehman Marwat conducted raids on transporters at General Bus Stands (GBS) Kohat Road and G.T. Road and collected first-hand information about fares and arrested 8 and 13 transporters from both bus stands for fleecing the commuters.
The route permits of the vehicles of the violative transporters were suspended and fare collected from the commuters was returned.
The Commissioner Peshawar Division, Riaz Khan Mehsud has expressed satisfaction over the crackdown and directed its expansion to other districts of the division and also sought a daily report in this regard.
