Senate Elections
DLP Report
PESHAWAR
Opposition parties in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly have initiated discussions on forming a joint strategy to challenge the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the upcoming Senate elections scheduled for July 21.
According to informed sources, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) are actively considering supporting each other’s candidates in a bid to consolidate their votes and strengthen their position in the Senate.
If an agreement is reached, the proposed agreement will see the PML-N and PPP backing JUI-F’s Dilawar Khan for the technocrat seat. Similarly, the JUI-F and PML-N would support PPP’s Rubina Khalid on the women’s seat. Additionally, the PPP and JUI-F are expected to throw their weight behind Niaz Ahmed Khan, son of senior PML-N leader Amir Muqam, for a general seat.
Sources further revealed that a formal announcement regarding the alliance and joint strategy may be made within the next two days.
It is worth noting that elections for 11 vacant Senate seats from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are set to take place on July 21, with 16 candidates currently in the running.
