The administration on Wednesday launched a renewed anti-encroachment drive in Mingora to ease worsening traffic congestion, removing obstacles and warning shopkeepers against occupying public space.
Assistant Commissioner-I Babuzai/Traffic Magistrate Imran Ali shah along with SP Traffic Pervez Khan, TMA officials and staff of other line departments, carried out the operation from Haji Baba Chowk to Kokarai Adda. Officials said shopkeepers found placing goods outside their shops were instructed to clear the encroachments immediately to restore pedestrian and vehicular movement.
A similar operation was conducted from Haji Baba Chowk to Naway Kalay Chowk, where authorities noted that several traders routinely parked their private vehicles along the roadside, contributing to traffic bottlenecks. The administration directed shopkeepers to use designated parking areas and warned that strict action would be taken against violations.
Representatives of media and local community community, who were present on the occasion, called for sustained and stringent measures to improve the city’s traffic situation.
Officials said the drive would continue until significant and lasting improvement is achieved in Mingora’s traffic flow.
