Provincial President of the Awami National Party (ANP) Mian Iftikhar Hussain has strongly condemned the bombing of a room in the residence of ANP District President Abdul Razaq Afridi in the Tirah Maidan area of Khyber district, terming it a cowardly and failed attempt to silence voices raised for peace.
In a statement, he said such cowardly acts could not intimidate those who were struggling for peace and stability in the region.
Mian Iftikhar Hussain said it was deeply regrettable and shameful that such incidents were taking place in the native district of the Chief Minister.
“If this is the condition of the Chief Minister’s own district, then one can only imagine the situation in the rest of the province,” he remarked.
He alleged that elements facilitating terrorists through bribery were being spared, while political workers and peace activists were being targeted through violent attacks.
He criticized the provincial government for its silence and inaction, stating that its incompetence was emboldening terrorist elements.
Mian Iftikhar Hussain pointed out that Abdul Razaq Afridi’s residence had been targeted in the past as well, and that the remaining portion had now also been completely destroyed.
He said these repeated attacks were clear evidence that terrorist groups were operating openly, while the government had failed to ensure the safety of citizens.
Despite claims of good governance, he said, the public and political workers were left at the mercy of terrorists, with no effective security strategy in place.
The ANP provincial president expressed full solidarity with Abdul Razaq Afridi and his family, assuring them of the party’s complete support in this difficult time.
