Provincial minister for health Khaliq ur Rehman has said that the medical profession was a sacred responsibility, adding that the White Coat was not merely a symbol but a lifelong commitment to serve humanity with honesty, professionalism, and compassion.
Mr Khaliq ur Rehman expressed these views while speaking as a chief guest at the White Coat Ceremony at Pakistan International Medical College (PIMC), Hayatabad.
Addressing the newly admitted students, the health minister stated that the White Coat Ceremony marks a historic and defining moment in their professional journey.
He emphasized that the oath taken on this occasion was not a mere formality but a lifelong pledge to serve humanity with dedication, integrity, and ethical responsibility.
He reminded the students that the medical profession must be practiced with compassion and selflessness, not for greed or material gain. Khaliq ur Rehman said that the health department needed young, energetic, competent, and dedicated professionals to strengthen the healthcare system.
“Doctors are entrusted with human lives and therefore incompetence, negligence, and dishonesty cannot be tolerated,” he added.
He urged future doctors to uphold the highest professional and ethical standards throughout their careers.
He pointed out that millions of deserving students across the country were unable to afford the high cost of medical education, and those who have been given this opportunity must value it and serve society with sincerity and responsibility.
The minister said that the focus was on quality healthcare delivery and positive patient outcomes.
He informed the gathering that the health department was formulating comprehensive and long-term policies aimed at sustainable reforms in the healthcare system, with special emphasis on improving service delivery, infrastructure, human resources, and medical equipment.
