Former Provincial Minister and Member of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Zahir Shah Toru, has termed the completion of 1,000 days of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s incarceration as a “black chapter” in the country’s political history.
In a detailed statement issued on Friday, Toru highlighted that the former Prime Minister is being kept in “extraordinary and harsh conditions,” alleging that basic human rights are being ignored and necessary medical facilities are being denied. He stated that such treatment of the leader of the country’s largest public party raises serious questions about democratic values in Pakistan.
Paying tribute to the party’s grassroots, Toru noted that thousands of PTI workers have faced political victimization, arrests, and injuries, while many embraced “martyrdom” in the struggle for their leader’s release and the restoration of “true democracy.” He emphasized that despite these challenges, the morale of the workers remains high.
“This struggle is not merely for the release of an individual; it is for the supremacy of the Constitution, the rule of law, and the respect of the public mandate,” Toru remarked.
He added that the nation has always stood against oppression and injustice, and this movement will eventually reach its logical conclusion.
