Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shahab Ali Shah on Thursday visited the Global Virtual School in Gulbahar, Peshawar, and reviewed preparations for the launch of the flagship digital education initiative, which is expected to become operational in August 2026.
During the visit, the chief secretary inspected the school’s state-of-the-art facilities, including seven virtual classrooms, seven digital laboratories, a podcast studio for educational and awareness programmes, and a modern training hall established for teachers’ professional development.
Secretary Elementary and Secondary Education Khalid Khan, Managing Director of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Foundation (KPEF) Qaiser Alam and other senior officials accompanied him.
Briefing the chief secretary, Mr Alam said the Global Virtual School would serve as the central hub of the province’s virtual education network. Under the project, more than 500 schools will be connected to the system through 175 virtual classrooms, enabling students across the province to access quality digital learning.
He said the initiative also incorporates artificial intelligence (AI)-based teaching tools designed to provide students with personalised and technology-driven learning opportunities.
The chief secretary also met newly recruited technical experts and teaching staff and congratulated them on securing appointments through a merit-based recruitment process. He urged them to perform their duties with dedication, innovation and professionalism, saying young professionals would play a key role in the success of the project.
“You are not merely beginning a job but becoming part of an educational journey that has the potential to transform the future of education in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” he told the staff.
Mr Shahab Ali Shah said hard work, competence and commitment were the foundations of success and expressed confidence that the Global Virtual School would emerge as a model of modern digital education, paving the way for broader reforms in the province’s education sector.
He said the project reflected the provincial government’s vision of ensuring equal access to quality education for every child, regardless of geographical location or background.
