Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Local Government, Meena Khan Afridi, has directed that all major roads of Peshawar must remain clean and tidy.
Chairing a review meeting, he announced that he will personally monitor the cleanliness operations across the city.
During the meeting, officials from the Local Government Department and Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP), including Secretary Aslam Saqib Raza and CEO Yasir, briefed the minister on ongoing activities. It was informed that WSSP currently supplies drinking water through 544 tube wells and manages a 1,400-kilometer-long water supply network in the areas under its jurisdiction.
The briefing revealed that WSSP collects around 500 tons of waste daily from 1,570 collection points and cleans 1,860 kilometers of drains in 42 union councils of Peshawar. The electricity expenditure for operating tube wells amounts to approximately 130 million rupees per month.
Officials further shared that a summary regarding the sale of waste has been submitted to the Planning and Development Department.
Due to new service tariffs, the company’s revenue has increased from 19 million to 28 million rupees. For a population of two million, WSSP operates 484 fleet vehicles across the city.
Additionally, 20 new model streets have been constructed under the company’s management. Minister Afridi instructed authorities to expedite the process of handing over 69 more tube wells to WSSP and to take steps within a month to enhance the company’s revenue.
He emphasized that starting tomorrow, all major roads in Peshawar must be clean, and he will personally monitor the sanitation process on a daily basis.
