A bid of smuggling of arms and ammunition from Afghanistan to Pakistan was foiled here at Pak-Afghan sharing border, Torkham last night.
The custom appraisement official, Torkham center said that on tip-off the custom officials stopped a suspected truck loaded import commodity (coal) bearing registration no.C-8782 for examination at terminal.
During search 88 12 bore guns made of Turkey and Russia and 600 cartridges were recovered from the vehicles concealed in various cavities of the it.
Allegedly arms smugglers, truck driver identified as Abdul Qader, resident of Afghanistan was apprehended and put behind the bars for investigation, the official informed.
Case was also lodged against him under the custom Act 1969.
On the other hand the custom officials on the direction of their highup further tightened the checking process at the import terminal in Torkham.
According to the custom official, the seized weapons have a value of 9.68 million rupees in the open market.
