Cape Monze Records x Chalo x Dialled In
10 May 2022

Bridging The Gap is a cross-cultural exchange between Cape Monze Records from Pakistan and Chalo HQ in England. Supported by the British Council, the first iteration of the project takes place in May 2022. British-based musicians of Pakistani origin – Ahadadream, Manara and Nabihah Iqbal – will be coming to Pakistan to conduct masterclasses, workshops and perform a mini-tour of the country.

Young Pakistani musicians will gain insightful knowledge into creating electronic music, how to market themselves and learn DJing skills. The young people selected and involved in these workshops will then go on to create a collaborative EP which will be released on Cape Monze Records, headed by Daniel Arthur Panjwaneey. Jaubi, the peerless Pakistani jazz band, will then tour the UK in August, with dates and venues to be announced soon.

The project is being delivered by Cape Monze records in Pakistan and Chalo HQ in the UK with support from Dialled In.

Cape Monze Records and Dialled In will also be conducting a collaborative tour in Karachi and Lahore with artists and collectives such as, Natasha Noorani, Talal Qureshi, Miracle Mangal, Infinity Records and more.

About

Chalo has released a 28-track compilation featuring ethnically South Asian artists, highlighting the diverse range of music and visual arts from ethnically Pakistani, Indian and Kashmiri individuals. The compilation garnered rave reviews and was featured in The Guardian’s ‘Ten Best Global Albums of 2020.’ It is also one of the main collectives behind Dialled In, a South Asian-focused festival and event company based out of London, England.

Cape Monze Records is an independent label based in Karachi, Pakistan that seeks to support forward-thinking music made primarily in the Asian subcontinent and beyond. Formed out of a pressing need to support artists based out of their bedroom and home studios while providing a platform for them to release their music. In its mission Cape Monze Records seeks to move beyond restraints of sticking to a specific genre or sound and to support artists challenging boundaries, regardless of their genre affiliations. The label approaches music as is, devoid of genre-prescriptions and narratives, focusing instead on the artists themselves – their stories and their music.

The British Council’s Pakistan/UK New Perspectives programme marks the 75th anniversary of Pakistan, celebrates the deep cultural ties between Pakistan and UK, and showcases the cultural wealth and contemporary identity and creativity of both countries.
