PESHAWAR
Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Dr. Mian Saeed Ahmed on Tuesday inaugurated the Dispute Resolution Council (DRC) at Police Station Town, aiming to provide quick, affordable and effective justice to citizens of Town and Tehkal areas. The ceremony was attended by SP Cantt Division Abdullah Ihsan, DSP Town Circle Arbab Naeem Haider, concerned SHOs, and members of the DRC.
Speaking on the occasion, the CCPO said the DRC system had been established to ensure swift resolution of public disputes and reduce the burden on formal courts.
He added that an Enmity Resolution Desk has also been set up to help end longstanding disputes and blood feuds, particularly those involving serious conflicts.
He said that, in line with traditional Jirga values, DRCs are being made more active and effective so that public issues can be resolved on priority and in accordance with local social norms.
The CCPO informed that 12 DRCs were currently operational at the sub-division level in Peshawar, where 13,679 applications have been received so far, out of which 12,878 cases have been resolved amicably.
He further stated that special instructions have been issued to ensure effective implementation of DRC decisions and timely compliance with summons, enabling prompt and fair justice delivery and strengthening public trust in the police.
Dr. Mian Saeed Ahmed also noted that DRC chairmen and members were voluntarily serving without remuneration, emphasizing that their responsibility is therefore even greater. He said efforts were underway to route most applications directly to DRCs to ensure timely and merit-based resolution of citizens’ problems.
Reiterating his commitment, the CCPO said the DRC system in Peshawar will be further strengthened to ensure justice at the doorstep of the people.
During the ceremony, DRC members thanked the CCPO and presented suggestions, which were immediately acted upon through instructions issued to the concerned police officers.
