Provincial Minister for Health Khaleeq ur Rehman said on Friday that cervical cancer was a preventable disease and that timely diagnosis, effective awareness campaigns and vaccination can protect a large number of women from the life-threatening illness.
Speaking at an orientation session on Cervical Cancer Awareness and Prevention at the Peshawar Barracks, the minister said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had placed the protection of women’s health among its highest priorities.
The session, organised by the Health Department for District Health Officers and District Education Officers (Female), briefed participants on early detection, preventive vaccination, public awareness drives, screening programmes and interdepartmental coordination.
“Cervical cancer can be prevented,” Mr Rehman told the officers. “With timely diagnosis, effective awareness campaigns and vaccination, we can save thousands of women.”
He assured the Health Department’s full administrative, technical and operational support for the campaign, adding that all available resources would be utilised to achieve the public health objective.
The minister urged DHOs and DEOs (Female) to take an active role in expanding awareness activities at the district level so that more women and adolescent girls could benefit from vaccination and screening services.
He reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to promoting public health and ensuring the provision of quality healthcare services for women across the province.
