Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Prisons, Humayun Khan, inaugurated a newly established Drug Rehabilitation Center at District Jail Abbottabad, said a handout.
Upon his arrival, he was warmly received by Superintendent Jail Syed Muhammad Junaid, Deputy Superintendent Hafiz Rashid, and other officials. A well-turned-out jail contingent presented a formal salute, and a bouquet was presented to the visiting dignitary.
Superintendent Junaid briefed the Special Assistant on the available facilities and ongoing welfare and reform initiatives within the jail. Speaking at the event, Humayun Khan termed the inauguration of the rehabilitation center a significant step in the government’s broader reform agenda, which is being implemented under the vision of Inspector General of Prisons Usman Mehsud.
The center has initially admitted 10 inmates, who are receiving treatment under the supervision of expert doctors, psychologists, and psychiatrists. In addition to medical care, the inmates are being trained in psychological rehabilitation, education, sports, computer literacy, and vocational skills such as dressmaking.
“This center is a revolutionary step towards the reintegration of drug addicts into society as productive citizens,” said Humayun Khan, emphasizing that prisons should be institutions of reform rather than mere punishment.
During the visit, the Special Assistant toured various sections of the jail, interacted with inmates, and reviewed cleanliness, security, and rehabilitation measures. He expressed satisfaction with the prison’s conditions and appreciated the efforts of the administration, particularly Superintendent Junaid and his team.
