RTAs to fulfil their legal responsibilities effectively and take practical measures to provide safer and better transport facilities to the public

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister’s Special Assistant for Transport and Mass Transit Samiullah Khan has directed the authorities to take action against unlicensed transport stands and goods forwarding agencies operating in violation of rules.
He issued the directives while chairing a meeting on Thursday to review the affairs of Regional Transport Authorities (RTAs) across the province, said a handout.
Provincial Transport Authority Secretary Naveed Akbar and secretaries of RTAs from different districts attended the meeting.
The meeting reviewed revenue collection, Category-C bus stands, recovery of outstanding dues, legal rights of transport authorities and measures to improve the transport system.
Officials briefed the meeting that the RTAs had performed well in revenue collection during the previous year and collected more revenue for the provincial exchequer than the prescribed target.
Mr Samiullah directed the authorities to ensure representation of RTAs in the auction process of Category-C stands conducted by tehsil municipal administrations (TMAs) and take effective measures to safeguard their legal rights. He ordered indiscriminate action against unlicensed goods forwarding agencies and illegal stands operating in violation of regulations, directing officials to seal such facilities where necessary.
The special assistant said the provincial government was committed to making the transport system more organised, transparent and passenger-friendly.
He directed the RTAs to fulfil their legal responsibilities effectively and take practical measures to provide safer and better transport facilities to the public.
Mr Samiullah also stressed enforcement of rules and regulations, saying improved revenue collection should go hand in hand with public convenience and better governance.
