Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif started balloting to inaugurate Phase-3 of CM Green Tractor Scheme. She said,”20,000 tractors in 25 years, but a record of 31,000 tractors for Punjab’s farmers in two years has been set.”
She congratulated the farmers who succeeded in the balloting, and called the lucky farmers whose names came up in the balloting.
Talking to a farmer, Hamza Liaqat of Bahawalpur, she said,”This is your CM Maryam Nawaz speaking. Your name has come up for a tractor in the balloting. Congratulations.”
She added that agricultural landscape is changing with the arrival of Green Tractor Scheme, and highlighted that Pakistan Muslim League-N has always focused on farmers’ welfare.
Provincial Minister for Agriculture, Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani, gave her a briefing on the programme.
He said,”427,005 farmers owning land applied under Phase-3 of CM Green Tractor Scheme.
“He added that in Punjab, there are 140 tractors per 10,000 acres of land, which is less than 50% when compared to other countries, so in 2024, Punjab government paid special attention to the use of agricultural machinery by launching CM Green Tractor Scheme, under whose two phases 21,000 tractors have already been provided, while 10,000 more tractors of 50 to 65 horsepower will be provided under the third phase.
He highlighted that tractor is the most important machine in Punjab’s agricultural economy, but continuous increase in prices had made it difficult for small to medium-scale farmers to buy tractors at full cost, as in the last five years, tractor prices in Pakistan have more than doubled.
