PESHAWAR
A grand jirga was held under the chairmanship of Commissioner Peshawar Division Riaz Khan Mehsud to address concerns of local elders regarding development, prosperity and the prevailing situation in Tehsil Hassan Khel.
The jirga was attended by Deputy Commander 102 Brigade Naveed Ahmed, Polio Programme Provincial Coordinator Shafiullah, SSP Operations Peshawar Farhan Khan, Deputy Commissioner Peshawar Sanaullah, District Health Officer Muhammad Idrees, Assistant Commissioner Hassan Khel Shahroz Mufti, along with more than 30 tribal elders from various communities.
During the meeting, tribal elders highlighted issues related to security, healthcare facilities, education, clean drinking water, road infrastructure, and uninterrupted supply of electricity and gas. They also proposed conducting polio vaccination campaigns at the neighbourhood level to ensure complete coverage of children.
The elders reiterated their commitment to stand with security forces and expressed resolve to cooperate fully for the elimination of terrorism, while distancing themselves from non-state actors.
Commissioner Riaz Khan Mehsud appreciated the participation of tribal elders and their cooperation with government initiatives, assuring that their concerns and proposals would be forwarded to the relevant authorities for prompt action.
He directed concerned departments, including the Polio Programme, district administration, and police, to develop a coordinated strategy in consultation with tribal elders for effective implementation of polio campaigns at the grassroots level.
