Commissioner Peshawar Division Riaz Khan Mehsud on Wednesday visited the University of Peshawar (UoP) to review proposed security arrangements, including the establishment of modern entry and exit points aimed at strengthening campus security.
During the visit, officials briefed the commissioner that modern scanners would be installed at the university and the entry and exit system would be upgraded in line with international standards.
The commissioner directed that the entry and exit points be established at an appropriate distance within the university premises to ensure smooth traffic flow on Jamrud Road and to avoid inconvenience to the public. He stressed the need to maintain a balance between enhanced security measures and traffic management.
Later, the commissioner visited Palosi Road and Forest Bazaar, where he reviewed ongoing civic and infrastructure issues. He instructed authorities to initiate immediate steps for road construction, improvement of the drainage system, and better traffic management in the area.
He also directed that a covering be constructed over the major drain and manhole covers be installed to facilitate residents and address public complaints.
The commissioner further instructed the Deputy Director of the Peshawar Uplift Program to prepare the PC-1 for the Palosi Road improvement project at the earliest to ensure timely commencement of development work.
He noted that work under the Peshawar Uplift Program had already contributed to the beautification and infrastructure improvement of Palosi Road, which also houses the city zoo, and emphasized that these efforts would be further strengthened.
