A meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah on Tuesday reviewed progress on the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s good governance reform agenda aimed at improving public service delivery, with several key decisions taken.
The meeting was informed that, on the directives of the chief minister, all departments were actively implementing the governance agenda in an effective manner.
Officials said work on Swat Motorway Phase-II had formally commenced to promote tourism and improve the communication network, adding that its inauguration was expected soon.
The meeting was further told that master planning for major tourist destinations, including Galiyat, Kumrat, Kalam and Kalash, was under way. The planning, officials said, would help ensure environmental protection, promote sustainable tourism and prevent unplanned construction in these areas.
Participants were also informed that the New General Bus Stand project in Peshawar had reached its final stages of completion. Upon completion, all bus terminals in the city would be shifted to the new facility, which is expected to ease traffic congestion significantly.
In the health sector, the meeting was briefed that recruitment of medical officers had been initiated in districts facing a shortage of doctors. A total of 2,400 medical officers are being hired to ensure uninterrupted provision of healthcare services.
The chief secretary directed the relevant authorities to expedite the pace of implementation on all projects and ensure timely completion of public welfare initiatives.
