Renowned cybersecurity expert Saturday urged social media users to take proactive measures to protect their accounts, including changing passwords every month, using strong and unique passwords, and keeping them confidential.
During an interview with a local news channel, stressed the importance of public awareness regarding online security, emphasizing that individuals should prioritize protecting their digital presence by using strong, unique passwords, keeping them confidential and updating them regularly to safeguard against potential cyber threats.
He warned that hackers often exploit common passwords, citing a recent incident where 184 million passwords were leaked, emphasizing the urgent need for individuals to adopt strong and unique passwords to protect their online accounts.
Additionally, being cautious of phishing attempts, keeping software and operating systems up-to-date and using reputable anti-virus programs can further enhance online security and protect against potential threats, he added.
He explained that cracked versions of software often lack essential security features, making them vulnerable to malware and other cyber threats.
Furthermore, using cracked software can compromise user data and expose systems to potential risks, emphasizing the importance of using legitimate and licensed software to ensure safety and security, he added.
He pointed out that many people use the same password across multiple accounts and often save them in their emails, which poses a significant security risk. If a hacker gains access to the email account, they could potentially compromise all the associated accounts, highlighting the need for unique passwords and secure password management practices.
He advised people not to save their personal documents, such as identification or financial records, in emails or online accounts that are not secure, as this can put sensitive information at risk of being accessed by unauthorized individuals.
He stressed the importance of raising awareness among people about online security best practices, emphasizing that informed individuals are better equipped to protect themselves from cyber threats and safeguard their personal data.
