Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Farhan Khan said here on Thursday that special child abuse desks were being established in all police stations across the provincial capital to ensure swift reporting and effective action against crimes targeting children.
Talking to journalists at Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines, he said that these desks will register all types of complaints related to child abuse and will be directly monitored by his office to ensure immediate response and accountability.
Mr Khan described journalism as an important pillar of the state and emphasized that close coordination between police and media was essential for identifying social evils, preventing crimes, and protecting vulnerable groups, especially children.
SSP furthered that data collection on individuals involved in child harassment and violence was underway, and strict action will be taken to curb such crimes.
A public awareness campaign will soon be launched on mainstream and social media to help parents, teachers and communities remain vigilant about child protection.
Highlighting his broader priorities, SSP Farhan Khan said that preventing street crimes, taking action against land grabbers, cracking down on drug dealers, particularly ice suppliers, eliminating illegal weapons, and stopping aerial firing remain key objectives of the Peshawar Police.
He added that police personnel have been directed to perform their duties with honesty, courage and professionalism.
During the meeting, journalists discussed various issues and presented recommendations for improvement, which the SSP assured would be addressed on a priority basis.
He praised the positive role of Peshawar’s media in exposing social evils and assisting the police in crime prevention.
SSP Farhan Khan also stressed the need to strengthen the Investigation Wing of Peshawar Police on modern lines, stating that weak investigations often allow criminals to secure bail and flee justice.
“Efforts are underway to enhance the capacity of investigation officers so that offenders cannot escape the law,” he said and added that all available resources will be utilized to protect citizens’ lives and property.
He added that close cooperation with journalists and all stakeholders is essential for building public trust and restoring the dignity of the community.
