PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department has issued strict directives to district health offices and DHQ hospitals for the utilisation of the medicine budget in the fiscal year 2026-27, saying the funds must be spent exclusively on the purchase of drugs. According to a statement issued on Monday the department said the allocation earmarked for medicines would be used only for that purpose and strictly in accordance with the approved Standard Medicine List (SML), existing rules and relevant guidelines. The department made it clear that no part of the medicine budget could be diverted to any other activity, purpose or expenditure. It also prohibited the use of the current year’s allocation for clearing past liabilities, dues or pending payments from previous financial years. DLP Report
All District Health Officers and Medical Superintendents of DHQ hospitals have been instructed to ensure full transparency and compliance with rules while utilising the medicine budget during 2026-27.
The Health Department warned that any deviation from the instructions or unauthorised use of the funds would be taken seriously and responsibility would be fixed on the concerned officer.
It further emphasised that transparent, effective and purpose-specific use of public resources remains among the department’s top priorities, and directed all relevant officials to ensure implementation of the instructions in letter and spirit.
