ECP launches campaign in erstwhile Fata for CNIC, voter registration

PESHAWAR
The Election Commission of Pakistan under the supervision of its provincial office in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa started a special campaign to get CNIC and voter registration facilities for the merged districts women and other deprived section of the area, said a handout.
Joint Provincial Election Commissioner KP Muhammad Javed Khan inaugurated the special campaign at Peshawar on Thursday.
He said that the Election Commission was launching this campaign in collaboration with IFES and NADRA.
Provincial Ombudsman Rakhshanda Naz, IFES Country Director Shabbir Ahmed, Election Commission and NADRA officials, civil society and media representatives attended the inauguration ceremony.
Mohammad Javed Khan said that the role of Education department, local government department, Social Welfare and Health department was very important in this regard.

The campaign has targeted registration of 25,000 women and other sections during the campaign. Muhammad Javed Khan said that
The Election Commissioner said that the target of registration for CNIC and vote could not be achieved without the cooperation of political parties, civil society and the media, adding that ECP was striving for the participation of all sections in the elections.
He further said that all offices have been made accessible for persons with disabilities and efforts were being made to make polling stations accessible in the next general elections.
The active role of NADRA, civil society and Election Commission officials during the last campaign, the gap between male and female voters has reduced by 10 percent.
Provincial Ombudsman Rakhshanda Naz said that the provincial ombudsman was playing an active role in harassing women working in offices. The provincial ombudsman added that the Election Commission and other agencies, including NADRA, were cooperating with the ombudsman.
NADRA Assistant Director Zahid-ur-Rehman said that they are working side by side with the Election Commission during this campaign.
Senior PRO Sohail Ahmed said that the Election Commission in collaboration with NADRA and partner organizations has started a mobile registration campaign in 2017 for women to get ID cards at their doorsteps.
