PESHAWAR
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on Wednesday sealed three steel mills in an operation in the Dargai Industrial Zone, located in District Malakand over non-compliance with environmental regulations.
A statement issued here stated that a team from the Central Monitoring Committee conducted an inspection of four steel mills in the area to assess their compliance with environmental regulations.
During the inspection, three of the steel mills were found to be in violation of Section 11 of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Environmental Protection Act, 2014. The violations were attributed to inadequate air pollution control measures and excessive emissions that exceeded the National Environmental Quality Standards (NEQS).
“As a result, the three non-compliant mills were sealed by authorities in coordination with the District Administration and Local Police, the statement said.
Sami Ullah, Director General of the KP EPA has said that the agency’s commitment to ensuring a cleaner environment. He stated, “The EPA is dedicated to maintaining a cleaner environment and will continue its strict monitoring and enforcement efforts against polluting units in the region.”
