PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department claimed to have foiled a major narcotics smuggling attempt in Dera Ismail Khan, recovering 10 kilograms of crystal meth (Ice) and 2.2 kilograms of heroin and arresting one suspected smuggler. According to a statement issued by the Excise Department, the operation was carried out by the Excise Bureau of Intelligence and Investigation, D.I. Khan Squad B-II, on the basis of credible intelligence. Officials intercepted a vehicle bearing Sindh registration number AACZ-761 on the Dera–Daraban Road. During a search of the vehicle, they recovered 10 kilograms of crystal meth (Ice) and 2.2 kilograms of heroin. The suspect, identified as Zahir Khan, son of Usman and a resident of Mohallah Killi Neonchari, Samgali Road, Quetta, was arrested on the spot. A case has been registered against him at Excise Police Station D.I. Khan, and further investigation is underway. The department said the operation was conducted under the provincial government’s zero-tolerance policy against narcotics and in line with the directives of Minister for Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Syed Fakhar Jehan to intensify the crackdown on crystal meth (Ice). The Excise Department reiterated its commitment to continuing indiscriminate action against drug traffickers and smugglers to protect society, particularly the younger generation, from the menace of narcotics.
