Five day anti-polio drive kicks off in Bannu division

Campaign halted due to security threats to teams in Lakki Marwat district, officials

A five-day anti-polio drive kicked off in Bannu division on Monday in which a total of 5.6 million children aged up to five years to be vaccinated against the polio.
According to district administration, a total of 2574 mobile teams, 154 fixed, 30 roaming and 131 transit teams have been constituted to administer polio drops to children at houses or other places including bus terminals, exit and entry points and markets. As per details, the district administration has also set up a team consisting of 711 area in-charges for monitoring of the polio teams.
Meanwhile, Commissioner Bannu Matiullah Khan division has asked people to not pay heed to negative propaganda against polio and play a role in eradicating polio from the entire region.
He said the arrangements had already been reviewed in meetings with all stakeholders to make the entire drive a success and conduct it in a peaceful manner.
He also directed the staff deployed for the campaign to leave no stone unturned to reach out to each child and administer anti-polio drops.
The anti-polio campaign started today (Monday) 28 and continued till October 2 in the division.
It is pertinent to mention here that the anti-polio campaign organisers in Lakki Marwat, a district of Bannu division, were ordered to suspend ongoing efforts due to security threats on Monday.
According to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Emergency Operation Center (EOC) in , the on-going five -day campaign is suspended until further notice.
The lives of the polio workers were at risk therefore the ongoing drive has been suspended.
