PESHAWAR
The death toll from flash floods triggered by heavy rains across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has climbed to 406, according to a report released by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Tuesday.
The PDMA stated that the torrential rains and floods, which began on August 15, have caused widespread devastation across several districts of the province. The authority is continuing damage assessments and relief efforts in the affected areas.
According to the report, a total of 406 people have lost their lives, and 245 individuals have been injured in various incidents across the province. The fatalities include 131 men, 167 women, and 108 children, while the injured comprise 121 men, 92 women, and 32 children.
The PDMA report also highlights significant damage to infrastructure, with 2,810 houses affected, including 2,136 partially damaged and 674 completely destroyed.
District Buner has been the most affected, with 237 reported fatalities. Other districts impacted by the floods include Swat, Bajaur, Mansehra, Shangla, Lower Dir, Battagram, Dera Ismail Khan, and Swabi.
The PDMA has directed the district administrations to expedite relief efforts and provide immediate assistance to the affected populations.
The authority’s emergency operations center remains fully functional, and teams are working closely with relevant agencies to monitor the situation.
